The Power of Sponsorship: Florence's Story
Florence's story is a powerful example of how child sponsorship can transform a life and create lasting change in a community.
Growing up in Karamoja, one of Uganda's most remote and underserved regions, Florence faced many barriers to education. At the age of 16, while in Primary Five at Lorengecora Primary School, she was enrolled in the Divine Care Ministries Child Sponsorship Program. Through the faithful support of her sponsors, Florence received the opportunity to stay in school and pursue her education.
After completing primary school, she continued her studies at Nadunget Secondary School before transferring to St. Kizito Secondary School, where she completed her O-Level education. With her school fees covered through sponsorship, Florence was able to remain focused on her studies and successfully complete this important milestone.
Rather than ending her educational journey there, Florence chose to pursue a path that is uncommon for young women in her community. In 2024, she enrolled at St. Daniel Comboni Naoi Technical Institute to study for a Certificate in Plumbing, completing the program in 2025.
Choosing plumbing was both courageous and purposeful. In Karamoja, few young women enter the skilled trades, yet Florence recognized the urgent need for safe water systems, improved sanitation in schools, and trained technicians who could serve their communities. She saw an opportunity not only to build a career but also to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
Today, Florence is eagerly awaiting her graduation and looks forward to putting her skills into practice. Equipped with her plumbing certificate, she is preparing to help improve access to clean water and sanitation while inspiring other young women to believe that no career is beyond their reach.
Florence's journey is a testament to the life-changing impact of child sponsorship. Because someone chose to invest in her future, she now has the knowledge, confidence, and skills to build a better life for herself and to bring hope and practical solutions to her community.
