Shem’s Journey from Hardship to Home

“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward them for what they have done”. - Proverbs 19:17

Lubega Shem has been in our program for many years. He is currently 26 years old and just completed his courses and earned a certificate in Electronic Engineering from Nakawa Institute of Business Studies. He is a bright young man with a powerful story of overcoming difficulties.

In one of his letters to his sponsors, he mentioned how the Lord provided land for his family but they do not have a home. So his sponsors reached out to the ministry to see what Shem's needs were and if it was possible to help his family.

After further investigation from our social workers, we discovered that Shem's family was actually homeless. They had a small plot of land (25ft by 25ft) because that was all they could afford but due to his mother's cancer they did not want her to be far from medical care so they sold the land to find something closer. A nearby church has kindly offered them shelter during this time of transition as they search for a new home.

The old living situation of Shem’s mother.

Shem’s story deeply moved his sponsors, stirring compassion into action. Through prayer and generosity, they raised the funds needed to help build a home for Shem and his mother. The top photo, taken just last month, captures the moment they received the support from his incredibly kind sponsors. Shem and his family’s hearts are overflowing with gratitude.

At Divine Care Ministries, we’re more than an organization—we’re a family. The bond between our sponsors and the children they support is real and life-changing. We’re so thankful for partners who love like Jesus!
